Franciscan Benediction

May God bless me with discomfort

At easy answers, half-truths and superficial relationships

So that I may live from deep within my heart.

May God bless me with anger

At injustice, oppression, and exploitation of God’s creations

So that I may work for justice, freedom and peace.

May God bless me with tears

To shed for those who suffer pain, rejection, hunger and war

So that I may reach out my hands to comfort them and to turn their pain to joy.

And may God bless me with just enough foolishness

To believe that I can make a difference in the world

So that I can do what others claim can’t be done

To bring justices and kindness to all our children and to all our neighbors who are poor.
